Not everything needs a plumber at 2 a.m. Some things do. Here is how we tell the difference, and what to do in each case. If you are reading this while water is moving somewhere it should not be, stop reading and call (918) 367-8887.
Water is running inside a wall, ceiling, or crawlspace. Every minute costs you drywall, insulation, and flooring. Shut off the main and call. This is the clearest emergency there is, and the one where the gap between calling now and calling in the morning is the difference between a repair and a remodel.
Frozen pipes are the same call before they burst. If a faucet has gone from a trickle to nothing during a cold snap, the line is frozen and it is still under pressure. Do not wait to see whether it thaws on its own.
Water coming up through a floor drain, a tub, or the lowest toilet in the house means the main line is blocked, not the fixture. Stop running water anywhere in the house — every flush and every load of laundry adds to what comes back up. This is a health issue as much as a plumbing one, and it does not improve overnight. Call.
Leave. Do not flip a light switch, do not use the garage door opener, do not start the car in an attached garage. Get everyone out, then call the gas company from outside. Once they have made the property safe, call us and we will handle the line repair.

One dry fixture is a fixture problem. Every fixture dry at once is a supply problem — a main line break, a failed pressure regulator, or a closed valve. If your neighbors have water and you do not, it is on your side of the meter and it is ours to fix.
A drip from a fitting can wait until morning. Water coming from the body of the tank cannot — the tank has failed and it will not stop on its own. Shut off the water supply to the heater and the gas or breaker feeding it, then call. A 50-gallon tank empties onto the floor, and it is holding 50 gallons right now.
Everything else — a running toilet, a slow drain, a dripping faucet, low pressure at one sink — is a next-day call. We will tell you that on the phone rather than sell you an after-hours visit you do not need.

Three things, and they are worth knowing before you need them. Find them tonight, while nothing is wrong.
Your main water shutoff. On most Tulsa slab homes it is at the meter box near the street — a rectangular lid, cast iron or plastic, with a valve inside that takes a meter key or a crescent wrench. Some houses also have an interior shutoff where the line enters, often in a garage or utility closet. Turning the main off stops almost every water emergency from getting worse while you wait for us.
Your gas shutoff. At the meter, on the pipe running into the house, there is a quarter-turn valve. A quarter turn crosswise to the pipe is off. You will need a wrench. Only do this if you have already left the house and you are safe outside.
The breaker or gas valve for your water heater. An electric heater that keeps running on an empty or leaking tank will burn out its elements. Kill the breaker. For gas, turn the control dial to “Pilot” or “Off.”
Take a photo of all three on your phone tonight. At 3 a.m. you do not want to be looking for a flashlight and a wrench at the same time.
